The decomposition of the Austro-German coalition accelerated, the Italians launched a major offensive against Austria-Hungary. At the end of its resources, Austria-Hungary asked for an armistice, which was concluded on November 3.
Unrest broke out in an exhausted Germany. On November 3, the high seas fleet mutinied at Kiel and the insurrection spread to the major German cities: Hanover, Cologne, etc.
On November 5, Germany accepted Wilson's conditions and was asked to send a delegation to Foch's HQ.
On November 8, the German delegation arrived in Rethondes and learned the terms of the armistice.
A German plenipotentiary returned to Berlin on the 9th, bearing the conditions of the armistice.
The situation in Germany worsened and the Kaiser was forced to leave his country for Holland.
The chancellor Ebert bows and authorizes his plenipotentiary to sign the armistice under the conditions imposed on the 8th.
A 36-day armistice was signed on November 11 to take effect at 11 a.m.
