| The German artillery | |
|
Germany relies on its artillery. In order to do so, it will mainly use the heavy artillery, which remains in this beginning of 1916 much more important than the French heavy artillery and, above all, much more efficient qualitatively. At the beginning of the attack, the German artillery counted 1225 pieces, mostly of large caliber: 420 mm, 305 mm, 280 mm, 210 mm, etc. all rapid fire. During the first attack, 855 pieces opened such a dense fire, the Trommelfeuer, that the whole region disappeared under the smoke. On the right, a 210 mm gun. |
