Presentation:
Yerres… of course, we know it, our city, we have been living there for more or less a long time. Its neighborhoods and streets (and their names!), its buildings, its parks, are familiar to us. We can be satisfied by that and not wonder about their origins.
The fact remains that Yerres was not always as we can see it today. The rural village has become a substantial agglomeration, influenced more and more by the extension of the nearby capital. Alongside strictly local events, as a commune in France, it has experienced changes in all areas, whether it be demography, administration in the broad sense, economic activity and the environment. It has lived more or less the great episodes of national history, wars and invasions. Hence the idea, to enrich our knowledge of these transformations, to set up a study group (informal, at least initially), the Société d'Histoire d'Yerres, Yerres Historical Society, bringing together a few Yerrois of good will and diverse backgrounds. With the modest ambition of shedding light on certain aspects of our more or less distant past, the subjects presented being chosen by the authors according to their centers of interest and, obviously, the sources available. History seen through the small end of the telescope? Rather the collection and use of documents and testimonies, which may be of interest to the people of Yerrois and possibly be used later for larger projects. The Yerres Historical Society being limited in its means, its studies will be freely available on its website. Hoping that it will be visited and will spark a constructive and fruitful dialogue between readers and authors.
