Exhibitions presented by the Yerres Historical Society:
Following the exhibition "The war in the Val d'Yerres" inaugurated in 2014, this new exhibition continues in 2016 the commemoration of the 14-18 war and extends the memory to the great moments of the year 1916: Verdun and the battle of the Somme.
";…André Bourachot and Alain Sénée have collected unpublished documents in order to keep alive the memory of this conflict, as it took place in the Val d'Yerres. This exceptional work is a precious testimony that you have the chance to discover today…"
The brand-new Yerres Historical Society will be happy to welcome you and to make you discover these great moments of our national history.

The exhibition begins with a brief review of the events of 1917: the Russian revolution, the entry of the United States into the war, the mutinies and Clémenceau coming to power.
1918 is evoked through four major events: the German offensives of March where Germany will risk one's all, the allied counter-offensive led by Foch, the armistice requested by Germany and renewed three times, the military innovations of the war.
But during this year 1918, life goes on in Yerres and the exhibition describes the life of our fellow citizens surviving despite shortages, rationing and censorship.
The exhibition gives an update on our research on the poilus whose names are inscribed on the War Memorial of the city.
Finally, we have associated the city of Mendig, a German twin city that entered the war in 1914 with the same joy as France, but suffered the armistice and then the peace treaty that the majority of Germans rejected, thus preparing the next conflict twenty-one years later.
To accompany this exhibition, we wrote a text that will allow the school youth to keep a souvenir of it. This text is presented to you in PDF format. To consult it, click here [in French].

Mendig, the German twin town of Yerres, sent a very important documentation on life during the First World War. Based on this information, the Yerres Historical Society has created 14 bilingual panels presented on the second floor of the exhibition room.
