The decisions taken
After many other meetings and difficult discussions to harmonize the French and British points of view, the two military leaders, Joffre and Sir Douglas Haig, agreed to attack on both sides of the Somme on 1 July on a 70 km front.

In February, the front began to be equipped, i.e. to build roads, railroads, cantonments, field hospitals, storage facilities, etc.

On the right, the widening of a road and the construction of a quay.
